South Florida ranks sixth for arts and entertainment jobs

Professional sports teams are included as employers in the South Florida arts and entertainment industry, which ranks sixth in the nation for jobs in that sector.
The tri-county area has 38,838 workers in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector, which has an average local pay per employee of $34,500.
On Numbers analyzed data from 2009, the most recent year for private sector figures, for 783 metropolitan and micropolitan areas. The sector employs nationally 1.9 million people, who work for such employers as museums, theaters and sports teams.
Statewide, Orlando reigned supreme with 44,549 sector employees, followed by South Florida, Tampa (19,780 arts and entertainment employees), Jacksonville (8,518) and Fort Myers (5,728).
Nationally, New York ranked first with 153,055 sector employees, followed by Los Angeles (120,258), Chicago (65,288), Orlando (44,549) and Washington (40,541).
